An Open Letter To My So-Called Teacher

Dear Sir,

I hope you're doing well. I would still care for your well-being as a gesture of basic human decency, even if you never thought twice before jeopardizing the well-being of your own students. Of course, I'm not going to name you for the reason that you find it more suitable to flaunt your position of authority rather than address the concerns of the students. And also the fact that I had to face consequences in the past even though I didn't name you anywhere in my writings! I have no idea why anyone would do that. I would assume that it could be your own personal egoistic nature.

Well, to begin with, it is not unknown to anyone despite you keep hiding that you treat students based on their identity rather than their academic performance. I always wonder whether it is up to a person to decide which identity they are born with. And this bias of yours was clearly visible in the difference in grades between students coming from marginalized caste backgrounds and the ones coming from dominant caste backgrounds along with the grades of the students who didn't subscribe to your school of thought, that is "bootlicking".

Perhaps I would like to give more emphasis to "bootlicking" here. Ever since you came here, you made it obvious that if the students are not ready for bootlicking, they better be prepared to face consequences. Is it for the reason that people accuse you of bootlicking yourself by coming to the educational institution because of political qualifications rather than academic qualifications? Whatever the reason, I was unfortunate enough to face the consequences of this by not subscribing to your model of bootlicking.

The thing that hurt me the most was when you criminalized the students for having a difference of opinion, especially the students coming from marginalized backgrounds. This was clearly visible when you preferred the assignments which reflected your political and cultural bias over students having a subaltern stream of thoughts.

I had always supported the reservation system but my belief system became even more stronger after studying under castiest and communal teachers like yourself. I am glad that Babasaheb laid the foundation of the reservation system otherwise Dronacharyas like you would have eaten many Eklavyas alive.

Ever since we enter kindergarten, we are institutionalized to believe that a teacher is the supreme person in the life of a student. The students celebrate Teacher's Day, some even chant the Guru Mantra in the school, showing the importance of a teacher and some even upload a selfie with their teacher. Well from my experiences after studying under you, I realized that these are all jingoistic things to cover up the dark side of academia which you represent as a single person.

While all of this was happening, the thing that saddened me the most was that some of the people whom I considered friends and seniors, themselves decided to reap the benefits of bootlicking from you from the examples that you continuously set. But I am also happy that I met some good friends and teachers whom I would also like to call "good people" who believed in humanity and compassion which are alien concepts to you.

I would end this here because I have nothing more to say to you because I think it would be more productive of me to channel my energy into watching a shitty show on Netflix rather than thinking about you or talking to you. And if you summon me for this letter, I most sincerely hope that you also acknowledge the injustices that you've done to me which I want to compare with war crimes.

Most Irritatingly and Annoyingly,

Not Your Student
